How long do you think it will take me to completely learn and play better on the violin ?

I am currently 13 . . I'll turn 14 on this coming Mar. 31 .. I really wanted to play, understand, learn, and enjoy the violin more. Last year I bought my first violin since I really wanted to play it badly since I was a lil' child. We haven't got the money back then for violin lessons and also I am positive that my parents won't let me take violin lessons YET . . Before I bought my violin ( been saving up those greens for a while . ) , I taught myself online , or I self-studied before I bought my violin to know if I really can play it . When I bought my violin, I can play some songs . . it kinda took long for me to study the finger patterns . After a long while . . I had no time to play my violin . When the new year came, I kept practicing when I had the time and I really wanted to have violin lessons . Badly . Umm .. How long do you think it will take me to completely learn and play better on the violin -- if I get lessons ( I'm having my lessons this summer ) ? I can read notes if I put their pitch names . Thanks :D I really love the violin ..

learning an instrument is a life long goal. if you really like it, it does not matter how long it will take. :) you do need to get lessons however, bad habits are easy to develop and as hard to lose as quitting cigarettes.
