Should I go into music?
-
I am asking here because I feel like there are a lot of die hard, try hard musicians in the performing arts section...and I figured the people here kind of know how the mind works...soo... I was thinking about being a musician. I wanted to go into making my own music. I am just solo though...I have never played for anyone, and what encourages me to play and practice more and to get better is if I am doing it for someone, or something. I know this is working towards my goal...but I mean, I don't even know if I want to go into music yet, and I have no one to work with, it is just me by myself. When I play music, I don't feel anything, unless I am playing a piece I really like. There are some pieces I like singing too...but it is hard for me to find a piece I like playing guitar to, or piano to. I try playing songs I like singing to on the guitar, and try playing along while the music goes(when I sing while music plays, that's how I get into it) but I either keep screwing up, or I am just not good enough to keep up with the musician in the song. So I am not really feeling playing music. I get lazy and I have not been doing it lately. Now it kind of feels like I have to force myself. Practicing, time feels like it goes so much slower. I keep on checking the time seeing "did an hour pass yet? oh no, only 10 mins..." Should I not go into music? Or is it normal to feel like this? I don't feel this with the violin at all because I can pretty much do everything on the violin, but the guitar and piano, and writing music...I am just starting...and I hate not being able to play an easy piece...while on my violin I can play it pretty much instantly, sight read it, and play it perfectly. So when it comes to easy pieces, I get kind of frustrated when it is on a different instrument. I am sure I will have a much better time on the violin...but I have to do it on piano since I don't have anyone to play with...so I use the piano to fill in the parts but I suck at it... So it is just a lot of work, instead of fun... Should I not go into music? Or is this completely normal at the very beginning?

Answer:
If ten minutes of practicing seems like forever to you, you shouldn't go into music. The kids who succeed in a music career are those who look at the clock and think, "Two hours already? I thought it was just fifteen minutes."
