Can someone tell me about commedia dell'arte is please.?

i am 14 and i just have started studying drama in high school and i need one of the many things i need to know about is commedia and i know nothing about it so can you please help me. :)

Commedia Del Arte is a form of masked theatre from Italy in the 14th Century. It was based around "characters" some of which are still around today (the harlequin and Mr Punch (or Mr Punchenelo) are two that survive in some form today) Wikipedia has quite a good explanation here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commedia_dell%27arte
