How to know whether you have found your passion?
-
I am a year 11 student and am trying to figure out what really is my passion. I am a determined persona and will work hard to get to what I want. however now I have a problem and that is that I really don't know what I want. I am really good at academic subjects such as sciences and math but I don't really enjoy them. On the other hand I like many art related subjects, but necessarily not great at them. This however may be because my parents are very strict when it comes to academics and the fact that am kind of pressured to put more effort on those academic subjects and since they are both doctors, there is an expectation that I should enter a similar career.(pretty much they don't consider art as a career and think that in a million ppl become successful.). So i was wondering how u know whether something is right for you and how should you choose ( logical: safe job, good pay, etc or a job that you and are passionate about but may not be as great as the other jobs)

Answer:
It's difficult, isn't it? My daughter was very academic, all her teachers said how she would do brilliantly at university, and that's the way she was headed. She had a place all fixed up at a good university to study Psychology. I thought it was what she wanted, and she never told me any different. Then, a couple of months before she was due to leave home and go to this uni, she suddenly told me that her heart wasn't in it, and that she wanted to be an actor. Obviously I was shocked, quite disappointed, and worried for her. Acting is a really precarious career, very few ever get a good role in anything, most actors give up after a few years, and the chances of her earning enough to live on would be minimal. But, my father always told me that you have to go with your heart, you have to at least try if something is important to you. Failure isn't not succeeding - it's never trying. So she worked in an office for two years to pay for the course, went to drama school, and now she's an actor. She doesn't earn much money, she works free-lance doing office-work to support herself financially, and struggles to find auditions and acting jobs - but she's very happy, has loads of really great friends, and wouldn't change her life for anything. Sometimes you just have to follow your heart. When you find your passion, you'll know. Be happy! xx

Hi! Im 15 and I think I just found my passion, MUSIC! So I am a great student straight A's and just do very well in school only problem is that I don't enjoy any of it. I'm good at math and english, but can't stand math and besides reading (which i enjoy) I can't stand english either. Sometimes I wake up in the morning all bummed out and when it comes time for music class I'm happy all of a sudden. My advice is follow YOUR heart. My parents really dislike the idea that I want to major in Music when I go to college, but they're gonna have to live with it. They want me to become a doctor or teacher or something else that can keep me well fed. My band teacher btw is surviving pretty well, and he's not complaining. I don't understand why people choose careers based on money, yeah of courseyou need money to buy food, clothing but it's not like a career in acting won't pay you. It won't give you as much (sadly people don't agree that music/acting is a valid profession, unless your on the big screen making millions) most times people don't make it that far. But as long as YOU are happy then everything will work out. I know music doesn't pay that much but it IS a profession and will give me enough to survive. I mean seriously would you really want to spend the rest of your young age working something you don't want all because it pays well? You'll have to people to help you out you're not alone in this world. When you're married you're spouse can help you, it'll all work out. YOU have to to choose what YOU want. In the end they can't really say much, you're going to college not them. They should be happy with your happiness. Good Luck and best wishes :D
