How To Play The Organ?

How many organ pedals is enough to play most music?

  • i am not an organ player but i recently came across an organ with a 25 note pedal board. i noticed that alot of Bach's music requires a 32 note pedal board (2.5 octave). how much is really possible with a 25 note pedal board? i know this is really a stupid question because i can always figure out a solution but i'm just hoping someone who has been playing for a really long time could tell me how often the notes past the 3rd c on the pedal board are used in common practice.. thanks

  • Answer:

Hi An organ with a 2-octave bass pedal reach is as complete as you can get and you have to compensate on 3rd octave notes by repeating the 2nd octve footing.
