How To Play Piano?

Could you learn a very hard piano piece if you don't know how to play the piano?

• I used to play the piano a little, I was self taught. But I'm very busy, so I stopped teaching myself. You now how in movies sometimes the character has to play a piano piece? And if the actor doesn't know how to play the piano they just teach him the sing, not the piano. Like in Dark Angel (I think), the guy played the piano but the actor didn't know how to, and he learnt the song in 2 weeks. Is that possible?

  Theoretically it is possible; but very hard (depending on the piece). What you should do is find the piece you want to learn and work out the rhythms first then figure out the left hand, then the right hand then take it one bar at a time. Once you can do the first bar work on the second, then put them together, then the third, then all three together, etc. It will be very hard this way, and you will probably do things that aren't technically correct, but (and most other music teachers would kill me for saying this) music isn't always about technique, it's more about the heart so if you can put your heart into learning this, it will be good. Practice often and don't stop, I don't care how busy you are, if you put away a half an hour a day it would be better than nothing. You may get discouraged, but remember, if you put your mind to it, there is almost nothing you can't accomplish! Best of luck!
