How to convince parents to let me take piano lessons?

• First of all, I've been playing guitar for quite a long time and I love it. I spend all my free time playing it and writing music... But recently, I've fallen in love with piano and I really want to learn how to play it, especially since one of my favorite musicians, Mike Kaneally is a virtuoso on both the piano and guitar... But my parents aren't fans of music at all... And they consider me spending money for instruments and lessons a waste of money... Any tips on how to convince them?

  Ok. First of all, tell them that the really prestigious, GOOD colleges aren't excepting students just for good grades anymore. They're looking for good grades AND extra-curricular activities. But since most schools in the country give a music and sports program to every student, it is that student's job to EXCEL in those areas (by expanding your talents to other musical instruments). Also, tell them you have a REAL passion for music. If they don't understand, ask them if they have a passion for anything like golf or dancing or something. If they do, they will understand how much you like music.
