Whats better tenor sax or alto sax?

    depends what kind of stuff you like playing. there's some really cool solos played by the alto such as Baker Street, Careless Whisper, Rat Trap etc. etc. the alto can obviously go higher pitched, giving you the opportunity to cut through the rest of an ensemble. but down in the lower registers of the tenor it can sound real moody and nice, especially with a good growl going on (think One Step Beyond). the higher registers of the tenor will probably sound richer than the alto's, and the general tone of the tenor will often allow it to blend in with an ensemble rather than cut through it.

if youre starting out playing, i suggest alto, i believe its easier and if you get better, try tenor, maybe youll like it more, noone can really tell you which is better (if youre talking about sound) its your own prefferance

alto is wayy better! alto all the way. i play it and have been playing for six years and i love it.

In my opinion i like the alto for fast songs but the tenor for slow songs. The bari is good also

Alto has good voice, but Tenor has good souul. Alto is charming and witty where tenor is deep and sinful. If you like clean progressive jazzy stuff, then alto. If you like romantic, melancholy blue/jazz, it's about all about tenor.
