Which flute brand should I buy?

When should I buy a new flute?

• So I am in the 7th grade. I obviously play the flute. I have since 4th grade. The one I currently play is a first act. Mamianka, before you say anything, I know they are garbage. I have read and seen that so much. My mom bought it for like $50. In case I quit, she wouldn't have wasted so much rather than renting or buying one. It doesn't work terribly bad though. By now, it probably should though. Right? It is however, very tarnished. Some screws are like litteraly almost out of the instrument. And the footjoint is all messed up. Well the Eb key works fine. The C sharp and C keys are all messed up. Maybe a wire is broken? So when should I buy a new flute? Should I like throw this one in the trash right now and buy me a at least better brand beginner flute? In high school I'm probably going to do marching band, so would it be worth it to keep this piece of garbage? Right now I'm not looking to buy a professional flute, just a better one. Well everything is better than a First act....

  Kids quit all the time - so your Mom did what she though was best, getting you something cheap. This is why some parents rent instruments, too. You clearly need another instrument NOW - and you can either get a good brand, used, or if you can swing it - a new flute. Go to www.fluteworld.com and look over instruments - you might want to start with Jupiter - and see what is what. If you can go for a new one - great. If not, at least you will learn some good brands and models to be on the lookout for, used. Good luck.
