What should I wear for a drama play?

In a 2 to 5 minute stage play (skit) is it neccessary for the "actors" to wear costumes. I am new to drama.

It honestly depends on what you are trying to portray and how serious the set up is. I would always elude to costumes, even if it was just a bandana for my drama class performance. I will add that it usually adds a nice touch at least, and can help you get more into the character. If I knew more about what you were doing it for, I could help more...for isntance, is it for a drama class? Then costumes are iffy- but still nice. If it is a performance for others or competition, costumes would be nice unless specified as not needed.

I totally agree with Pixie Vixen. In something that short, you don't necessarily have to go all-out with costumes--then the skit becomes about the costumes, the actors are having to deal with them, etc., etc. Just one simple costume piece to a) help the actors get out of themselves and into character, and b) just as important, so the audience sees them as somebody else, is all you need. A hat, a vest, a scarf, sunglasses--keep it simple, and let the focus be on the characterizations. (Same with sets--theatre is way more imaginative than movies. All you need for a living room is a couple chairs, and the audience's imagination.)
