In what ways do lap/pedal/dobro type instruments sound different than guitars?
-
What is the tonal difference between me playing some sort of lap/pedal/dobro instrument and just playing my guitar with a slide? I know they obviously sound different, but im thinking of investing in one, and im wondering if the tone is enough different to be worth it when my telecaster with a slide sounds fantastic.

Answer:
They're different in every way possible. All of the instruments you listed above are used for country music songs. They give country music the twangy-Nashville feel in which you hear when you listen to it.
