Which is The best acoustic guitar in 100-150$?(Not beginner)?
-
So, I'm looking for an acoustic guitar for me. I've played classical for 2 years an I think I need something new, since I started playing acoustic songs on nylon strings. I've already got some technique and do play mostly everything as an intermediate player. mainly acoustic rock songs such as pink floyd. Also a bit of blues and country and some solos. Which is The best acoustic guitar in the price range. Feel and things like that don't matter, cause I've never owned an acoustic so I think I'll get used to anything. I just want it to be well-made, high quality and of course great sounding. my main choices are Yamaha FD01S an Epiphone PR 150. I prefer solid top instrument for sure but I'm not sure how well FD01S solid spruce top works and how well it is made. I even don't know the spruce origin, so I prefer It to be good, trustful but laminated than solid but not-known. I also don't want a guitar that doesn't sound good after 3 frets and only does on open chords.please help me choose and tell me other suggestions for the best cheap acoustic. any offer kindly accepted.

Answer:
The Yamaha FG700S at $199 is about the cheapest guitar I'd recommend, especially since you're not a beginner and have an ear for good tone. Epiphone guitars are decent but I find the necks on the to be chunky. If you're used to playing classical guitar that might not bother you though. Definitely play one before you buy it. If you have $8000 definitely go with Mikey's suggestion (McPherson), otherwise, I think Yamaha is your best bet for the money. They make quality instruments and I think you'll find the action and intonation to be very nice on the FG700S. My only complaint about them is the nato neck (only because I have this thing about nato, not that I've actually known anyone to have experienced neck issues with one), and some minor finish flaws on some of them. If you want an acoustic electric, the FGX700SC is basically the same guitar with a pickup and preamp and cutaway for $299. Again, about the cheapest acoustic electric guitar I'd recommend. The Washburn WD10S is also about $199. I prefer the Yamaha, but you could try both and see which you liked better. I think the Yamaha is better constructed, plays nicer, and has better tone. EDIT: FWIW, I have a Guild D4NT and it is a great guitar, but again, you're not going to get one for $100 - $150. People ought to read these questions and realize that their favorite guitar is not the best recommendation for everyone else, and it's not at all helpful to recommend an $8000 or even $800 guitar to a person who only has $150 to spend.

Even if you buy used, at that price you ARE going to get a beginner guitar. IMO Yamaha acoustics are preferable to Epiphones. For a bit more money you could get a Yamaha FG700S or FG720S, both highly regarded entry-level instruments with a lot of bang for the buck.

Yamaha is still a hot ticket within that price range.

Mikey: Yea dude, you know high end guitars well, but it's pretty useless information to recommend a $9000 guitar to someone who has like $150 to spend. That said, there are many options to get a decent playing and sounding guitar for $100-$299. Well known names like Epiphone, Ibanez and Yamaha offer some pretty good sounding and playing guitars in that price range. Go to the music store and try some out. You are not a noob, so you should have a good idea of the sound and feel you are looking for. While you're at it, you might want to give some used guitars a try. You might be able to get a better guitar for your budget. See what the music store has to offer, as well as check out the classifieds and craigslist. You might be surprised at what you find. One last idea. Should your options change and you find you could afford $399, you might want to take a look at the Gitane GJ-10. This is a very good solid top guitar, based on the Selmer guitar that is commonly associated with the legendary Django Reinhardt. This style of guitar combines some of the best features of classical, flat top and arch top acoustic guitars. The slotted headstock, much like a classical, helps the guitar stay in tune during hard playing. The top does not have a plastic pic guard glued to it to take away from the tone. The solid spruce top is curved, giving a great tone by combining the fullness of a flat top and the punch of an arch top. This style of guitar was the first to sport a cut away, which in it's design, enhances the sound of the guitar, unlike many acoustic cut aways that are just an afterthought to the original design. I have played many guitars that were cheaper, or more expensive. This one has become my favorite. xx

You're not going to find "well-made" and "high-quality" for $100-$150. Sorry. For that price range, you'll get an OK guitar, decently constructed but NOT top of the line materials or construction, most likely with a laminated top. At that price range, if you can find one with a solid top, I would get that and not worry so much about how well the solid spruce top works or the origin of the spruce -- all things being equal, a solid top is going to give you better tone than a laminated top, period. Later on, when (or if) you're ready to step up and spend $1,000 or more on a really nice, high-quality guitar, you can debate the relative merits of Adirondack spruce vs Sitka spruce vs German spruce, etc. Bottom line is, the only way to find the best guitar for your purposes in your price range is to go to a well-stocked guitar store and try out as many instruments as you can get your hands on. Feel DOES matter -- fretboard width, scale length, and neck contour make a huge difference in whether or not you'll be comfortable playing one guitar vs another. Of course, any reputable guitar shop will have set up their guitars to play their best, so the action shouldn't be an issue.

The JR Dreadnought guitar is very nice for the price. Also, I like the Amigo guitars. For around $150.00 you can get a very nice Amigo guitar.

I'd definitely go with a McPherson acoustic, their MG4.5 model.

DEFINITELY the Epiphone PR 150 even better is the PR 5 for 299.

Cheap is as cheap does. You may want to think 'inexpensive' rather than cheap. But (oh, Mikey, you're such a kidder!) if you have been playing as long as you have and are capable of judging the quality, worth and playing comfort (very important) of any guitar, then you should really consider giving yourself what you now deserve according to your experience and expectations. There are a variety of makes (a good dozen) and models of which to choose and you should expect to be paying out from $150 - $500 (really) for this next guitar of choice. Most all of us players here have ended up with instruments around that $1000.00 mark after the years, decades of what we've experienced and appreciated in the world of guitars. Some even, a bit more expensive for our particular preferences. As you become more accustomed to your instruments and gain experience of being a player, you will discover of what the quality, performance and joys of playing a good guitar can mean. And, a good start is one with that 'solid top' soundboard. Anything costing $100-$150 is (maybe) a 'good' beginner guitar, usually. Anything less would be a disappointment if new. Or, a fortunate pick as these are about a 50-50 odds in getting one that even passes. Go find a store that carries the Oscar Schmidt (by Washburn) guitar line and you might get lucky... or not. Least 'expensive' that I know of. But don't ignore Cort or Samick either as an inexpensive try. Johnson too. I've been surprised by some of these brands and how well they have improved since the 60's. They may look, feel and sound good enough. Many though, aren't built to last beyond their given warranties. Only if you take good care of them, they can go beyond that well enough. You'll soon find that out for yourself.
