How often do you change your guitar strings?

  • How often should one change the strings of a guitar?

  • Answer:

Some people only change them when one breaks. Some people prefer the bright tone of new strings and change them every month or so. Some professional guitarists change them more often than that. It's really a personal preference dictated by the tone you like and how often you can afford the time and money to change strings. I usually buy a box of 10 sets and change mine every couple months, but I only play about 10 hours per week.

3 weeks at most. I PREFER to have fresh strings weekly, it just doesn't always work out that way. Haven't broken a string in... heck, 15 years I guess. Nothing like those nice fresh strings.

Pretty much personal preference. I usually dont change mine until one breaks, then I change them all. Also, if you wipe your strings down with a cloth after each time you play you will make them last longer, and keep a nasty gunk from building up on them.

I change them every other month or so, depending on my budget. Really, you should change your strings when they lose their brightness, which can vary a lot depending on the brand of string. Coated strings last longer than uncoated but are more expensive.
