Answer:
Go to your piano or a friend"s. The piano is split up by black keys in groups of three and two. Go to the group of two closest to the middle of the piano and hit the white key just above it. That's middle C. Sing a scale down from C with the piano until you're uncomfortable or start to sound bad. Write that note down as your lowest (To find the name of that note just go to middle C and go down each white key going from C to A and then from G to A. Any black key has two name, either __ sharp with __ being the white key below it and __ flat with __ being the white key above it) Next go back to C and sing up the scale with the piano until you're uncomfortable or sound bad and write that down as your highest note. (Use the same method to find it's name but going from C to G and then A to G, and then A to G...) To know how many octaves that is go to your lowest note and look at what colour it is and where it is in comparison to the two and three sets of black keys. Then go up the piano until you find another key that is in the same position. The space between that key and your lowest is an octave. Keep going up the piano counting how many time you see one of those notes until you reach your highest and that is your range in octaves If that made no sense to you then just count the number of keys between your lowest and highest and divide that by eight. OK I hope that all helps and makes sense. Bye Have fun

Sit at a piano and start at middle C. While going down the scale to the C below middle C, sing along with it. When it gets difficult to reach the note, or if it is too soft, you have found your lower octave note. Now do the opposite. Starting at middle C, go up the scale and sing along. When you can't hit the note and it gets too shrill, you have found your top range. Some believe when you switch to your falsetto voice (when you voice breaks in timbre) you are near your upper range. Now the bottom note to your top note is your range. For me, it is the E below middle C to the A the second octave above C, so that would make it a over a 2 octave range. When they say sing at C - they are wanting you to hit middle C (or one of its octaves) or sing in the Key of C. Not everyone can do that - it is called having perfect pitch. Normally they should give you a note to aim for or harmonize to.

find yourself a piano teacher in your area and ask them to do the scale with you or point you in the right direction for more help if so.

Ill be glad to ans you b/c I'm good in music. Ok what you do is you play on the keyboard and you go to C and start there and say do ra me fa so la te do and whatever note you go to and the sound sounds like it's too high or low then that's the vocal range you are at. I'm a low d. If you have any questions abt music e-mail me at [email protected] when you are singing raise your eyebrows, smile, look at the director instead of the lyrics and also stand up/sit down straight. Just sit in front of a piano and see how far up and down you can sing, simple.

uh, Okay. You cant just start singing and know what the ell you are doing. If you are teaching yourself you need a piano. - It needs to be in tune. C on a piano is C in voice. ( Likewise different instruments are different - A Sax would be an A) Find a fingering chart for piano or take voice lessons. Middle C is where you start. An octive is the scale of notes ( 8 of them) from one C to the next. ( C is important because there are no accidentals in a C scale) The song Do Re Me Fa So La Ti Do from the sound of music sings a scale. (Also the beginning to the backyardigans) When you sing from 1 C to the higher or lower C that is one Octive. Most people can only do one or two. Aretha Franklin can sing four. That is the best way to start, but there is a lot to learn from there. Good Luck
