Hello Why do people still read novels although they can see those novels as movies? What I mean is that before the creation of TV people could only read novels but now they can watch a 2-hour movie instead of reading a novel for days or weaks which is boring and need a lot of time movies are more spontaneous and also more affecting, for example when you see a man dying is more touching than reading that he is dying What do you think?

Answer:
There are differences in the two mediums and each has its own advantages. I think reading is pretty boring and I read pretty slow (it can take me weeks to read a book) but still some books are pretty good and the screen couldn't do them justice. I think my favorite book is The Time Machine. It has a good message, it's entertaining, there aren't many characters to remember, and it's also pretty short (which I thought was awesome, with all the brick-sized classics around.) But they didn't make a good movie out of it yet. But some movies are definitely better than the book. Some might disagree but I thought that 2001: A Space Odyssey the movie was a lot better than Arthur C. Clarke's book. It's boring, very boring. But it's film making at its finest. It really depends on the actor and the script, whether or not a death is more affecting in a book or a movie. I don't usually cry when reading books in which fictional characters die (although nonfictional books in which real people have died can make me cry. Any biography about Nikola Tesla is pretty sad. He was a genius and had all his ideas stolen from him. He could literally have been a trillionaire (if he was living today, you know, inflation) but he ripped up his own contract for Westinghouse's electricity company. Westinghouse didn't give him anything. And he died penniless and obscure although he should have gotten as much recognition as Thomas Edison.) But I'm digressing. Except there's not much more to say. Yeah, everyone's already said it. The mediums are different.

I find novels pleasurable to read. If you read a novel you could imagine the scene in your own imagination but when you see a movie you do not imagine something else because you see all the visuals. Novel reading increases your vocabulary and also increases your ability to read quickly. It also makes you a good narrator and good at writing

movies leave stuff out, books are more convenient, not every book has been made into a movie

Reading is boring? Have you ever read a poem that was so emotionally charged that you cried? Or read a description of a scene that made you feel as if you were the one experiencing it? For Pete's sake, it's called imagination. Reading is exciting when you can visualize the scene and really "see" the characters. I am more touched reading about a death than seeing one on the big screen. There are emotions that words can touch upon that visual effects can't reproduce.

Because novels are usually a lot better than the books. There's a lot you can't convey in a movie because the words are more powerful. (plus, 95% of the time, the actors they chose don't fit it perfectly.) AND, people actually like to read. I don't get why you think it would take days or weeks. I can usually read a 1000 page book in a span of 3 days or less. You're probably just too stupid to comprehend things that you have to imagine.

Novels explain more and have more details than movies.

People who still have an imagination and some literacy will continue to read. Movies may be good, but they keep you from thinking and in many cases are less enjoyable than the book.

I feel sorry for you and others who don't get reading. You are totally missing out on some great stuff. Very rarely do movies match or convey correctly what is written in books. Like others have said, wrong actors, directors, and production can RUIN a movie adaptation. And not all books are made into movies. Nor do I WANT some of my books as movies. Some are better off just being a story, rather than a movie. I will stick with my books and read of far off places, characters who face great challenges and tragedy, ideals and choices that define what it is to be human.

Novels are written with more details than movies, you get to know the characters better as you get more time to accustom yourself with them. It can even make you feel like you ARE the character, and I love that. The other thing that I love about novels is that you get the change to develop your own visual picture of the story, whereas with a movie the picture is already laid out for you. It's a lot more personal for me to use my own imagination think up a setting using words, there are just so many ways you can read into things in books and there a fewer ways in movies. I actually find it more touching to read about a person dying that to see a person dying, for example I cried reading Twilight because I was so connected to the story that I could feel how Edward was feeling about his love, Bella, potentially being about die. Whereas in the movie, it didn't make me cry because I didn't feel like I was observing Bella's death first hand. Plus, if you're watching a movie in the cinema, it's with a ton of people, as I said before books are a lot more personal. Hope I didn't bore you too much, LOL.
The novels include extra stuff you can't get in a movie. A novel can get you inside the character's head and what they're thinking more than a movie can. If the movie tried to verbatim the novel, the whole movie would be what the character is thinking inside their head, and there's not enough time in a 2 hour movie to put all that extra stuff in. Read the novel of say, a movie like Waterworld, and you get the characters more, more background and flashback histories of their life.
