Does anyone know any good books?

Does anyone know any REALLY good fantasy books?

  • i loved the twilight series and i really feel like reading something dark with maybe a little romance and lots of action. i would like anything with vampires. i dont want any wizard-related books so no harry potter and i dont want to read anything even vaguely similar to the chronicals of narnia or anything like that. i would also like some suggestions of non-vampire books for a variety, maybe demons or something. sad books are good too. i dont like the super happy endings too much. but seriously just list a bunch of fantasy books i can look into. thanks.

  • Answer:

*Blue Bloods Series by Melissa de la Cruz *Vampire Kisses by Ellen Schreiber *Ashes & Illusions by Stefanie Ellis *The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine *Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead *House of Night Series by P. C. Cast

Most of the Forgotten Realms books are good or pretty reasonable, I've read most of RA Salvatore's and liked them all so far. For a fantasy-like read, you could go for Conn Iggulden's series of novels based on Ghengis Khan - lots of action so far and it's really intriguing (I'm on the second book so far). You could also go for some of the classics like Beowulf - just make sure you get a readable version. edit: "the Bible" - the Asker said "good" not "god" books ;) edit2: Also the Raven series by James Barclay (and anything else he's written). There are wizards/magic in it - but it is in no way like Harry Potter magic. They are possibly THE BEST fantasy books I've come across, tastefully gritty - if such a thing exists - and were a refreshing experience which is hard to come by in the fantasy genre.

I generally like the books by Diane Wynne Jones. Though a number have wizards or magic in them, they are pretty different from the Harry Potter books. You could try "Fire and Hemlock" you might like this one. If you like female heroines you might like Tamora Pierce books. And you probably enjoy the books by Garth Nix. Get started with "Sabriel" You could also try the "dark materials series" it starts with "the golden Compass" by Phillip Pullman.

Try the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. It's got vamps, werewolves, fairies, and lots of murder/treachery/romance. Actually, it's on HBO now as a series called "True Blood".

The modern faerie tale series by holly black (tithe, valient, and Ironside) Dark, adventure, slight romance, kind of mysterious, really good.

You could start reading Darren Shan's books. It is full up of that kind of stuff. It isn't really for a certain age group, so anyone can read them, I think.
