Well, I watched the movie (never read the book) a while ago but at the very end, when the boy is standing in the gas chamber surrounded by the other prisoners while his pro-Hitler father is racing to rescue him, that is mostly pathos (emotional appeal for the innocent boy). Imagery...the striped pajamas appear so innocent to the young innocent boy but they mean something entirely different to adults. The boy never finds out why only some people wear the striped pajamas.
