How do I find a literary agent?

How do I find a good publisher and/or literary agent?

  • I have been trying to find a publisher, but I haven't yet. I have written 2 stories that I would like to get published. Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    I would suggest that you purchase the Writer's market 2006, though I heard that 2007 will be coming out in July. Anyway, this is a great book of publishers, agents with all kind of helpful information including addresses and writer's guidelines for submitting. I call it a writer's bible. A must have if you are a serious writer like myself. Do you have your cover letters, synopsis ready? You will need those for submitting. You can also find the writer's market at the library too, if you don't want to purchase it.

Could you give a few more specifics? What kind of stories? Short stories? Novels? What genre? Sciencefiction, Romance, Comedy, Children, so on. Some publishers only focus on one sort of genre or literary type, and so it would be best to know those first.

GOOD publisher or agent? They don't exist. Unfortunately the best thing to do is keep going out there and submitting your story. My grandfather got published through IUniverse.
