Is Kindle Wireless really worth over Sony Reader and other digital readers?

Book readers what would you choose for a Christmas present - Sony Reader or Amazon Kindle and why?

  • The books I read are normally large - I commute and read - ALWAYS. Also, for you military readers out there - what types of books do you read to "clear the strategic mind"? My mind clearing books are normally about actors.

  • Answer:

    kindle is cool bcause the free interenet. Sony is cool because it has a better screen (2nd gen). Plus is just looks cooler and has a better feel. I have a 2 gig card in mine and I still have 1.8 gig free 45 books (one is a bible, 4K pages) 20 pix 20 songs my choice was the sony. I am buying this to read. I can just as easily download the books with a computer connection and charge it at the same time.

I don't know the readers you mention. I use my 4gb Ipod Nano. I purchase books online and then download them to my ipod. I do a lot of traveling and keep at least 3 books on my ipod, lots of space still for music, if I do want a break. Also got a little converter thingy that allows me to play the books through my car radio. This was my best gift ever. I still do excecise my mind by reading actual books when I'm home and have at least two books (one real, one audible) going at any given time.

Wow...I never heard of those items until I read your question!! That is the coolest thing I've seen yet! I am a Sony fan in general (knowing nothing about these particular products), but it seems the Kindle is more popular because they are already sold out!! Sweet...I'm going to have to look into this a little more!

The guys in the military read a lot of action books. I sent several of I Am Legend overseas at their request. Me, I like the good ole paperback books.

I would definitely want the sony reader. My mom has one and she loves it! She can download books easily and take it anywhere because it is so compact. This is a definite for the avid reader who buys their books! Good Luck!

I have a Sony EBook reader and an older RCA (Rocket) Ebook reader. The RCA used a proprietary format, and later versions were DRM'd to the point that it killed the product. The Sony allow you to read pdf and text files as well as its proprietary format, has the electronic paper display is a nice slim design. The info I have on the kindle shows that it includes cellular wireless, and some messaging ability, but I don't know if it allow you to load non proprietary content. My main gripe with the Sony iis that it doesn't support html (mine is a little older model, the current version may be different.)

Aaaagh! I love books too much to have them read to me. I would only go this route if I was blind. I'm just old-fashioned like that, I guess. I like to purchase my books so I can write in the margins.
