Is commercial blogging worth doing for an aspiring writer?

Writers/Authors: Do You Like Blogging or Dislike Blogging Compared to Writing Books?

  • Writing books (fiction or nonfiction) is very different from blogging in my experience. In blogging, you must allow comments (and respond), you must optimize your websites, etc. to make them successful. In other words, your success depends very little on your content, and much more on your networking and website skills. In contrast, with book writing, you generally just focus all of your energy on the actual book, and don't have to deal with comments and all of that. I was just curious: Which do you prefer as a writer (if you have both written a book and blogged)? Personally, I prefer writing books rather than blogging.

  • Answer:

I blog on someone else's site, so I don't have to do all the networking, but I prefer to write in the novelist form.
