I am curious does white people read books by black authors?

Racism is a huge issue still. Answering your question: Yes, I think most educated people (the kind that enjoy reading) read books not based on the author but based on the story.

To be honest, I rarely know whether the author of a title I am reading is black, white, green, or purple. I'm sometimes not even sure if the author is male or female. It's the topic of the book that matters to me. The author only matters if I have already read something I like by him or her.

I'm black and I'm currently writing a novel catered to the urban lifestyle. I picked up one of these books by a black author because it was popular and was on the Essence best seller's list. It was called "The Hottest Summer Ever Known" about a girl who goes around trying to give everybody HIV...Well the story sucked. Since I'm a writer, I pick up on inconsistencies easily and I find that many black authors who write for Triple Crown Publications (I think Zane is one of them) are not good writers at all. The plot is incoherent. Several grammatical errors (aside from the purposely used slang/ebonics) can be found. Point of view changes from line to line. That book really pissed me off! I don't know about white people reading these novels, but these urban fiction writers need to take a few writing courses. FYI There are a lot of black authors who are literary geniuses. Terry McMillan; Maya Angelou; Toni Morrison to name a couple..

Being a racist means you wanna be unique or something..start a clique or something stupid... I think it sucks. I don't mind if I'm reading a book written from another race! The color doesn't matter. I would read a book written by an author from a differentt race if the book was good!!!!! MAN!!! I hate racism!!! Stupid people just look down on you, and they just feel bad about it!!! Well then, I say that I do read books from another race. If someone is racist, then he/she sucks. They don't understand that they're unique cos' the other races don't have the same skin color. Hah.

I read tons and tons of books and I have no idea what color or nationality the authors are. I don't choose a book to read based on the author. I do know who my favorite authors are by name, but even for those I do not know thier color or nationality.

Why wouldn't they? I mean unless they are completly racist but then they wouldn't really have time to read because they probly be drowing in the on misery going on bout what black people have yatta yatta yatta! Does race really matter if its a good book?

I read Westerns, if you know of a good black author, I will give them a try......................
