What are some of Juliet's character traits?

What positive & negative character traits does your main character have?

  • and which positive and negative traits do you particularly think work well together? i'm just wondering because i'm curious to see which positive and negative traits you chose to match (:

  • Answer:

Oh my gosh. I LOVE this question. I'd give you a million stars if I could! This may be hard to believe, but I've never actually given much thought on my characters' traits. However, now that I'm thinking about them, I can easily see her good and bad traits. My character's good traits would have to be her loyalty to her family, her empathy, and the fact that she cares about her family more than she does about herself. That's a good thing, right? She'd especially give her life up in a heartbeat for her youngest--and only--sister. She has a great capacity to love and she's not obedient like a dog, but she's not the disobedient type, either. She's found a nice balance between the two. She's not really smart, but she's not stupid either. As far as character traits go, I think that's a good thing. I am so tired of reading about main characters who are -so- intelligent, but have no common sense or whose actions don't show their smartness. Her bad traits would have to be her stubborness. As far as I'm concerned, stubborness can be both a good and bad thing, but I think it also depends on the person. For my other characters, I'd list stubborness as a good character trait because they balance it out with other character traits. However, for this main character, it's a negative character trait simply because she won't admit when she needs help and with the situation I've put her in, she desperately needs it. She's also prideful, which sort of goes with her stubborness. If she'd let go of her pride and accept the help she obviously needs, then she'd have a much easier time dealing with the situation she's in. But no...she's got to be difficult. Another negative character trait would be her guardedness. Once she's made up her mind about you, she doesn't change it. Not a good thing since people can and do change. If you're outside the wall, then she doesn't care about you, and by the time she's actually changed her mind about you, you're tired of trying to earn her approval. She's average, but she's a hardworker. She's not shallow, but she can be judgmental of others. She comes off as arrogant when you first meet her, but when you get to know her you realize she can be pretty cool. She's sarcastic and impatient and doesn't make or have time for nonsense. She's mature for her age and can be emotional at times. She's not really talkative and doesn't ask very many questions, although she's curious in that way where she goes looking for things she should stay out of. She's easily paranoid, but she can hold her own. There. That's my -current- main character. I'll answer the second part of your question when I get the chance. To answer the second part of your question, I think traits such as selfishness go well with being kind. I know kind, but selfish people. Stubborness goes well with generousness. Greediness with the need to succeed--otherwise called ambition. Being able to self-motivate yourself. Um...perfectionism and optimism. Pessimism and forgiveness. Or cynicism and forgiveness. Intolerance with non-judgemental-ness (I don't know the word for that). Being a hardworker goes well with being stupid and conversely, I think being smart works well enough with being lazy. Those are just a few, but I feel like I haven't even answered the second part of your question well enough. *sigh* I did choose qualities that I thought, together, would make the character a tolerable and easy to understand person.

The main character of the current trilogy I'm working on is a womanizer despite not being that handsome, he comes from an old money family and he's obsessed with playing polo. He's a late sleeper, eats too much, loves to party and is a great friend. He takes advantage of people a lot, and the good honest kind of people at that, he's selfish and has a big ego. He loves being the center of attention and making people feel stupid. He's loud, mindlessly brave and he always has a running plan and makes things work for him and not the other way around. He changes in book three, tho. Oh, and he hates pretending to like someone. He'd rather just tell the person why they suck and get it over with. He speaks his mind about people's personalities. He really hates apples and beer. His favorite band is 'The Hives'. He takes showers a couple of times a day. His bestest friend in the world drowned in his pool :( I love flawed characters. Oh, God. I love him so much :O I love the writing life.

He's very conforming when it comes to adversity - that is, he's more likely to try to shape himself to challenging situations than to try to shape them to himself. This is probably both positive and negative, as it sometimes gets him out of trouble, and sometimes means things don't work out properly. He's not particularly strong-willed (save when he's very, very upset), which I suppose I see as a negative trait, but he does tend to be able to tease his desired results out of things with subtlety sometimes, rather than forcing what he wants to happen. He's a little shy, because that just seemed to fit. (He's probably also a terrible cliche. :P) He very much fits a quiet/clever-sits-back-and-watches-every… sort of cookie cutter, which is something I need to work on, but according to the Litmus Test he's not a Sue, so that's a start. :P. (I...am very much an amateur, you may have noticed.) He is Ridiculously Loyal, and expects the same in return. I haven't figured out yet how he would react to betrayal. (Hmmm...) He also Cares very much about people in general - have I mentioned that he's fairly young, and more than a little naive? He gets rather huffy when his naivete turns out to be wrong, too. :P

Personally, my character is quite knowledgeable (she's a researcher), but she tends to get ahead of herself with overly-intricate plans. She's pretty mellow though, considering. However, she was abducted at one point and used as a test subject in an experiment, which left her with multiple personalities. She can't talk to them at all, so it's pretty stressful on her part, so she's a bit traumatized that way.

Positive traits for my character Azure: She is determined, sometimes to a point where she is completely devoted to a certain task that all has a thing to do with her main goal. She also is sentimental, and caring, to a point. Azure is also loyal, (even if she doesn't know it yet.) Azure is a deep thinker, wondering about all sorts of different things inside her head. Negative traits: Sometimes, she'll be so devoted to a single task, she'll do anything to get it over with, no matter how cruel, or self harming it is. To "deserve" her sympathy, you'd have to prove your worth to her, and sometimes, she won't even look at someone that does not benefit her in any way. Her deep thinking can lead to her being easily panicked, distracted, and spacy. Can you help me with my latest story piece? (you don't have to, and it's kinda really long.) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ap9xWBaNavMvPYHFpgWnTNfsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20091207165940AAzbcHk

My main character, Rose, isn't particularly complex on the surface, but she's not as basic as it seems. Positive traits: strong-willed, intelligent, clever, ambitious, confident, plucky. Negative traits: very stubborn, cruel, proud, selfish, vengeful, naive, cowardly, materialistic (and also a bit of a ho). But her basic personality is that she knows what she wants and she will do whatever she has to in order to get it, not caring who she hurts, whose dreams she shatters, or who she has to sacrifice along the way. Also, about the character traits, for some of them, they can be good when used correctly or negative when used incorrectly. For example, she's determined but very stubborn and unwilling to see anything any other way. She's clever but the fact that she's very cold and aloof gives people the impression that she's a conniving little b***h. It's not really the traits that make up a character, it's how you use them.

Scarlett

Well my main character in one of my stories is by far my favorite ever. Her name is Skeye. Positive traits: She is a very strong and confident person, and she has a great outgoing personality. She is artistic and takes in the natural beauty of things. Negative traits: Tends to be selfish and assume bad things in people. That was fun ^_^
