Are there any good books?

What are some of your favorite books, or suggestions for good books to read?

  • I love to read but I'm in a bit of a slump right now please list your favorites

  • Answer:

1984 by George Orwell is probably my favorite book of all time, but one I recently read that was really good was A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah. It's a biography about a former boy soldier who's village got raided and then he jouryneyed through Africa, and eventually ended up in the USA, but the book is very moving and also very detailed. It's probably the best biography I've read.

You sound young and teenish- maybe you'll like my personal favorite "This Side of Paradise" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. About a shallow, confused, arrogant, yet brilliant guy growing up.

I love books by Jodi Picoult. She is a phenomenal author and I would reccomend anything she wrote. Some of her books include: Mercy, Perfect Match, My Sister's Keeper, The Pact, Keeping Faith, Plain Truth, Nineteen Minutes, Songs of the Humpback Whale, The Tenth Circle... etc etc... She writes w/ a diversity of topics, and has a very fascinating writing style.

I've been reading autobiographies lately and loved Dream Brother, the Lives & Music of Tim & Jeff Buckley by David Browne. Also Zappa, a Biography by Barry Miles of Frank Zappa. Very interesting stuff.

I love Jane Austen. I've read and reread her books. They're definitely worthwhile. I'm reading a Charlotte Bronte right now. I just finished Kitchen God's Wife by Amy Tan. I'm in a female writer streak right now. Before then I was reading a lot on middle-eastern culture. The Kite Runner is really good. Three Cups of Tea is excellent. Watership Down is one of my favorites, as is Little Women. I'll read pretty much anything, but I hope this helps.

I like the Sir John Fielding Mysteries by Bruce Alexander. The first one is Blind Justice. It is historical fiction, and the characters are great! The same goes with the Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian. The first book is Master and Commander. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is also amazing. Enjoy and happy reading!
