What were the major difficulties/internal problems of the ottoman empire (18th century)?
-
Please explain. Also, as an outside observer, what could have been done to save it?
-
Answer:
Increasing power of the Janissaries, that undermined the power of the Sultan and the effectiveness of the Ottoman army. Lack of able Sultans ruling the empire. The empire had stopped expanding,so there were less new resources available to the Sultan to reward soldiers and other officials with. European enemies of the Ottomans had become more centralized, and their armies had,by 1700, a marked advantage in weaponry technology, training, and organization.
