What was the economy like in germany in ww1?

Why do Americans think that they did most of the work in WW1 and WW2?

  • Many people I have met (including americans) think that the US could have won both wars by them selves. While the US military may have a good fighting force, most of the work done in WW1 was by France, Britain, Russia, and the Middle eastern revolters. America came in the war in 1917 I believe, in 1917 Russia was going to withdraw from the war and Germany had significant territorial gains, but the Germans were going to collapse anyway because of supply shortages caused by the Allies. America came in soon after the Germans had to improvise with their supplies and railroads had been abandoned, while the Americans helped with several invasions, Germany was already crumbling from within. And America only joined when Germany started sinking their ships and encouraged Mexico to invade the US, they didn't join because they were helping their allies. In WW2, America joined the war only after Japan attacked Pearl Harbour, Hitler had almost taken over all of Europe, Britain was cut off, the battle of Britain was won, and after Hitler attacked Russia. The US had only sold help to Europe before that, crippling the British economy, even if Britain was forever trapped without being captured, Russia would've still pushed Germany back to Moscow because they felt incredibly angry over Hitler breaking the pact with Russia and felt it was necessary to sacrifice almost 30 million lives to push back Germany bit by bit for their ultimate revenge. That being said, Italy dragged down germany as hitler had to constantly save Mussolini in countries hitler didn't want to attack wasting precious time and troops. America only supplies Britain and Russia after the war was tipped into the allies favour. London was bombed many many times and Moscow was also bombed and the US just watched as millions had died before they joined the war. So can someone please explain to me how America did all the hard work.

  • Answer:

It is symptomatic of poor education, isolationism, utter ignorance and arrogance that leads some Americans to think that they won WWII on their own, or that they "saved Europe". Most educated Americans are aware that in WWI their involvement was of limited importance to the overall outcome, and that ALL the allies were important in WWII. Some idiotic Americans even claim that the Atomic bomb was an American weapon. True it was developed in the USA, but the team was a multicultural team that was funded by both the USA & the UK - so it was an Anglo-American weapon, not just an American one.

In WW 2 Hitler was almost unstopable, if Japan had not attacked Pearl Harbour, Germany would have captured all of Europe. America came in and saved Europe from Germany. We were also the ones that developed the bomb that saved many lives, and ended the war with Japan.
