How to study for A level history?

Can i study history a level even if i did not do it at gcse?

  • Can i study history A-level if i haven't done it for gcse. or would geography be better which i have done at gcse The college i want to go to offers pathways and before its too late i want to swap medicine for law. other a levels im choosing: english lit and english language Psychology Classical civilisation

    At my school you are allowed to do History a level if you did geography gcse my friend who is now in year 13 did so but I would imagine that it varys from school to school and would also depend on what grade you got for your gcse♥

You can enter yourself privately if your school or college won't do it - but this is usually more suited to older candidates.. You are more likely to do better if you have done the GCSE - rather depends how well you did at Geography as to whether that is viable. I took English Lit at A Level - but never did it at O level. Both courses usually have high entry requirements - so you would do well to check with the college what kind of entry requirements they are looking for, and take it from there.

My old school definitely wouldn't let you do a subject at A Level which you hadn't studied at GCSE and got a C or better in. My current University's medical school wants 4 A grades at A level, just to give you a heads up. I don't think this is an uncommon requirement.
