I need help finding World War II events?

  • I need help finding World War II events? I need help finding 10 WWII events. The focus is on the US perspective on the event (this is for U.S. History, not World History) Please help!! I'm having a hard time finding events to write about. -each event should be on a separate slide chronologically Standards to cover: 1. Causes and Effects of the bombing of Pearl Harbor including internment of Japanese internment camps 2. Turning points in Europe and the Pacific during WW2 3. How domestic policies were affected by the US involvement in WW2.

  • Answer:

"Cause...of Pearl Harbor" Japan attacked China in the 1930s and USA didn't approve, told the Japan govt they should get out of China, Japan ignored USA, the USA in response imposed trade restrictions upon Japan - no more anything from USA incl goods and oil... Japan though meh, we'll just invade Dutch East Indies and take their oil - but they knew the USA would act against that so Japan opted to take out the means in which that would happen, the USN Pacific Fleet based at Pearl Harbour. "Effect...of Pearl Harbor" USA declares war on Japan -> Germany declares war on USA in support of her Axis ally. USN transfers bulk of Atlantic Fleet to Pacific to meet Japanese threat, Germany notices the US eastcoast undefended - launches Operation Drumbeat, a UBoat offensive against US eastcoast in which 600 ships are sunk. US and Canadian citizens of Japanese anchestry banned from westcoast, all property and belongings and business siezed and sold by govt, interned to the interior. "Turning points" 1939-45 Battle of the Atlantic [against UBoats, Allies needed to supply the European theatre] Summer, 1940 Battle of Britain [RAF defeating Luftwaffe and any chance of German invasion - USA wouldn't have a base in Europe had there be no Britain] June 1941 Operation Barbarossa [German invasion of Russia; effected USA as Russia became huge customer of US Lend-Lease] June 1942 Battle of Midway [definate turning point in the Pacific in USAs favor] June 1944 Operation Overlord [D-Day, allied invasion of the Brittany coast at Normandy in France] Apt 1945 to May 1945 Battle of Berlin [Hitler commits suicide, Third Reich falls, Germany is defeated] "How domestic policies..." Rationing; everything from rubber and tires to gas to food to clothes. Women enter workforce in huge numbers Free speech censored [eg newspaper censorship, reading of mail, etc] Hope this helps :)
