Did the leaders of Europe secretly desire to kill off a good portion of its population during WW1?

(WERE MOST OF THE MEN FIGHTING OF THE LOWER CLASS TOO BTW? WHY SO? WHAT ABOUT THE RICH OR MIDDLE CLASS MEN?)

    No. Most wars are fought over disputes over territory, and WW1 was no exception. The object of the war was not to kill men, but to regain territory invaded, stop the German advance, etc. And although the majority of those killed were working class, inevitably, since they were by far the largest class, in fact a disproportionately high number of those killed were junior officers, who were mostly upper class or upper middle class. This is what led to the legend of the 'lost generation' as they were known.

You have named the "ruling families" of Europe as if they were the leaders of Europe and ask us an extremely loaded question about killing off the LOWER CLASS - with obnoxious capital letters, when the facts are that they were not the leaders and the people who led Europe into war were of totally different backgrounds than your presumption. The military rulers of Germany - primarily responsible for the war in many senses had undercut the "ruler" of Germany. The Russian Revolution had started ten years earlier and destroyed the Royal family in the first years of the war. England was run by upper middle class republicans that had sidled the Queen aside. And those who were in line to fight the war were sure that their offensive (Germany) and defensive (France mostly) plans were so good that the war would end quickly with few deaths.

I don't think that they do that intentionally but the survivors are often better off.
