  • Answer:

Most lawyers and paralegals start with English or history degrees. Private investigators who help them may have history backgrounds. Businesses hire economists to help them forecast business trends. Also, people who work in human resources often have these degrees. Historians can be teachers or self-employed as researchers or writers, and if you'd like to run for office, knowing how the government works helps. Good novelists also can benefit from knowledge of history, to the extent historical accuracy is useful to their books. Historians often work for museums and (for those who have seen Pawn Stars) can serve as experts for authenticating documents, artifacts, or similar items. Numismatists study the history of money and may deal in rare coins. Philatelists study stamps. Although news reporters may have degrees in journalism, an historical base does not hurt. People who study the history of languages may be able to get work as linguists or translators. Also considered as a humanity is psychology, which can be a bridge to the study of medicine.

I have an undergraduate degree in History and was able to pursue my love in life: Teaching. Also researchers need such a degree because of the great amount of research you have to do to get one. Museums employ Historians, Politicians Employ Historians. I had several good political jobs. In college history you no longer to know that Caesar was killed in March 30 B.C. no one cares anymore about dates. No one now cares about who, when and where. What we study is why?. We want to know why the Huns started to invade Europe. Why Carhage invaded Italy, why Spain fell as a major power. Why the Communists almost controlled the world. I know, it is not an exciting life, but if you continue to love learning it is very fulfilling.

I guess it depends how far you go with your education. A two year degree will get you no where. A four year degree might get you a teaching job or some sort of manager in a customer service field History degree could make you a town historian! Anything more will get you to the fun stuff about researching and discovering things! Actually traveling or going outside the country. Also since you are in 9th grade you still have time to pick and discover more about these fields! You could find a topic that you could combine the two. Such as a historian on Tibet that knows understands their culture!

Humanities includes many subjects for example: literature, music, art, languages etc. so you would have to decide which area to major in. History also has various parts such as ancient, the middle ages, American History, European Historyetc. A humanities or history degree will qualify you to be a teacher.
