Is the US Government a Good Problem Solver?
-
In the Last 20 Years What Major American Problems Have Been Solved? Here are some examples of major American problems: 1. The Failure of our Schools (K-12) 2. The Failure of our Quest of Energy Independence. 3. The Failure of the Federal Budgets (Fiscal and Trade) to be Banlanced. 4. The Failure to Grow the Middle Class 5. The Failure to Clean Up Campaign Contributions and Washington DC Here's what it takes to solve a major problem: 1. The Problem must be bounded (in measureable quantitative terms) so you know when you've solved it. 2. The authority and resources to solve the problem must be in a single pair of hands, or if in many hands, they must all agree, or if they can't all agree, there must be some decision-making process that is finite in duration, for example taking a vote, or flipping a coin, or setting a trigger (binding action protocol). 3. The solution on which the authority and resources are expended must actually work -- it has to solve the bounded problem -- meet the endstate conditions that have been pre-defined as the solution. Don't feel limited by my list of major problems. Don't feel limited by my guidelines on what it takes to solve a problem. Let me know your own thoughts after you've taken the whole 2 minutes to read the whole question. Please hold off on the clowny kneejerk wisecracks. Thinking is lawful. It won't hurt your head (like G.W. Bush). It's OK to think before you answer this question. But don't study. This is a "Pop Quiz", so .... if you study .... I'll know!

Answer:
You want a pair of hands that can fix the economic failures - How about Adam Smith's idea- The invisible hands of the free market The Government caused all those problems. Memorize and recite "The law of Unintended Consequences" daily ~Whenever the government forces an unnatural change in any economic system, the end result will have unintended consequences.~ (TLOUC) Much like pushing in on a balloon, it will simply bulge elsewhere, or break. The more government forces itself into economic systems the more damage it will do. The cure is to take government out of the equation as much as possible, and let the free market find the common ground. To have quantifiable results means looking into the future and we can't do that. Some of your list of failures are judged on a continuum it gets better and worse but it's unrealistic to solve completely. 1. The Failure of our Schools (K-12) - ~ Home-schools do better with almost no money when you look at standardized tests (no government) Private schools do better as well. (TLOUC) 2. The Failure of our Quest of Energy Independence. ~ Wind and solar are not practical. Nuclear can be safe and plentiful as in the French model but government regulations and environmental bureaucrats won't allow it. Nor will the allow drilling into some of the greatest oil reserves in the world. (TLOUC) 3. The Failure of the Federal Budgets (Fiscal and Trade) to be Balanced. ~Prices stabilize under free market conditions and tax laws drive corporations overseas. They also keep prices artificially high. Government failure to allow domestic drilling forces us to pay money to nations that hate us and who are using the money to fund terrorism. (TLOUC) 4. The Failure to Grow the Middle Class. ~Taxes slow the economy. Government cannot grow the middle class but free enterprise can. You restrict and tax business and guess what? The middle class loses since all taxes are passed on in 3 ways. People work harder for less. They pay more for less. They earn less on investments. (TLOUC) 5. The Failure to Clean Up Campaign Contributions and Washington DC. ~The government has taken over way too much of the economy. If there was nothing to buy, True constitutional limitations on the power and scope of government. the campaign contributions would dry up. (TLOUC) All off the top of my head no links but I would be happy to provide them if asked. No study required. Thanks for the pop quiz

I'm sorry.. I had to laugh when I saw the phrases "U.S. Government" and "Good problem solver" in the same sentence. Politics and politicians in the United States are extremely corrupt and getting are worse every day. It's not so much an issue as to which politicians are getting elected so much as it is the outrageous amounts of money that are being partitioned off for the simplest of ideas and uses. Two major examples of these include the "Corn-husker Kickback" (where Nebraska was to be given an extra $100 million for a "yea" vote for the health-care package) and the "Louisiana Purchase" (a $300 million proposal for Louisiana's "yea" vote).

Didn't know you were writing for SNL. The best thing gov can do is stay the hell out of the way and let the states and counties run their own shows. IF we need them will call.

LMFAO!!! Not even close but thanks for the laugh!
DeadHead
Never was. Never will be. Government, as now exercised, IS the problem.
