Fantasy Football Keeper Question?

Early Fantasy Football Keeper Question...?

  • So, I know it's early, but wanted to see if people agree with me or not. 6 points for all TD's 1 point for 10 yards rushing/receiving 1 point for 20 yards passing 1 point per reception I have 4 possible keepers going into the 2009 season, but can only keep 2 of them. Adrian Peterson - 24 years old to start next season - He will be one of my keepers, no questions asked. Best player in the NFL right now. DeAngelo Williams - 26 years old to start next season - 2nd in my league for RB points scored with 275 total after the 16 week season. 1340 rushing yards on 249 carries, 18 rushing TD's, 22 Rec, 121 Rec Yards and 2 Rec TD's. I really like DeAngelo, but I'm nervous Jonathan Stewart will steal too many of his carries next year. Carolina would not have used a first round pick on J-Stew if they weren't going to use him. Maurice Jones-Drew - 24 years old to start next season - tied for 3rd in my league for total RB points with 260 total points. 746 rushing yards on only 174 carries, 12 rushing TD's, 61 receptions, 555 rec yards and 2 rec TD's. I know his numbers look fairly low when comparing to DeAngelo. I like MJD because he's a little younger and because Fred Taylor is going to be 33 next season, so he's on his way out. If MJD was tied for 3rd in points this season while splitting carries I can't imagine what he'll be like as a featured back. Steve Slaton - 23 years old to start next season - 8th in my league for RB points total with 241 total. 1190 rushing yards on 248 carries, 8 rushing TD's, 45 receptions, 341 rec yards and 1 rec TD. As much as I love this kid, I still don't think I can keep him over any of the previous 3 players I mentioned. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot guys (and girls).

  • Answer:

I would go with MJD being a PPR league. I would also have to with Adrian Peterson. The guy is such a talent and hopefully the Vikings will get him more involved in the passing game in the future.

as much as i love slaton, i would have to say for you to keep MJD. MJD is the featured back in jaksonville now with fred taylor getting old. Jacksonville is known to run alot, while MJD also gives you reception yards and he returns kicks for them to. The reason why i would not keep williams is becasue as you said they also have jonathan stewart, and he will get some more carries next year.

I am assuming you can just hold the players over and it isn't an auction league. That would have to factor in. If not an auction league, I think it is a toss up between Slaton and MJD. Taylor should get fewer carries, but teams will make the Jags prove they can throw the ball. Slaton should be even better next year and he can catch the ball. If it were me, I think I would take a chance and go with Slaton. I think it is a bit risky but could pay off huge. MJD won't do much more than he did this year, even if Taylor gets fewer carries. Slaton was 8th in your league and he didn't get big playing at the start of the season.

Your assessments of these running backs is on target. I would probably keep Peterson and Williams. I love Slaton as he is an all pupose back, a wonderful runner with break away speed and a fine pass catcher. Jones-Drew is a very good runner, who scores TDs and is a terrific receiver out of the backfield. He has been frustrating to have on your fantasy team as he has a strong week, followed by a low scoring week. I always felt he should get more carries, Your decision is made easier as you cannot go wrong by simply taking your most productive runners, and not looking back. This is suppose to be fun. Good luck!
