Fantasy Football Question Regarding Trade?
-
I am the commish of a Yahoo Fantasy Football League.I have been in to many leagues where firesales occur, having trades like LT for the Arizona defense get passed through a league vote.So for this league, I put the trade acceptance under control of the Commish. During the draft,2 owners thought that they had a deal.LaDanian Tomlinson for Laurence Maroney,Randy Moss, and Donald Driver.Seeing as how this is still the Preseason,I provided the best reason for rejecting the trade as I could."Last season,LT had 15,000 fantasy points on all three of those players."However, it is not like I am directly opposed to a trade for LT.I cleary stated to both owners that a deal like LT and Adrian Peterson for Maroney, Moss, Driver, and either Jamal Lewis orTatum Bell. The owners stated that too much was given up for LT.Whose saying they are not good friends looking to run this league with cheap trades?Should I have just passed the original trade?Or should I stick to my guns and maintain a fair league?

Answer:
I would ask the rest of the league members to see how many of them oppose it, and make your judgement on that. I doubt they would all be conspiring against the league.

First off I left a league yesterday when the commish is doing the same crap you are doing. As my brother stated (he was in the league too) It will be hard press for the commish to NOT veto a trade that would affect him in some way Even though the trade was fair. What you did was screw the 2 teams that wanted to make the trade .If (and its at the beginning of the season) the trade was offered to you you would jump on it and if you say NO than The question as already been answered. The commish should only stop a trade if there was a trade that would affect the playoffs or if it was LT for a kicker than you veto it. I know one thing I would never play in your league again . Step up to the plate and act like COMMISH instead of looking after your own interest . YOU CANT GO ON LAST YEARS STATS ! Everything changes what if LT breaks a leg, what if Driver catches for 1500 yards and 13 TDs. You dont know SHAME on you !

I was in a league last year with a few friends, and one of them had some of his friends in the league. Well, after they started hacking accounts and changing around Commish powers, the league was in havoc. Those kids passed ridiculous trades, etc. Tiki Barber might have been traded 9 times in this league. Its not hard to get some people together in a bigger team league like 16 or 20 and say, if done early enough, why not join, and lets all find a way to make the playoff? I mean, when I wanted Larry Johnson last year, I had to send away Tiki Barber, Clinton Portis, and Joe Horn, but in 05, Barber and Portis put up far better numbers then what Driver, Maroney and Moss did last year, and I probably gave up more fantasy points then I should have. However, if there has been some system set, like say, "Make sure preseason deals are within 12,000 fantasy points from last year, or 5,000 fantasy points from last year" before a trade was set, then that should be the way the league is run. Therefore, no one can say you are looking for your own judgement, but basing it on a fair but reasonable scale. I mean, projected points are wasteless, cuz we all know driver will have a bad year cuz favre is done. He has like half an arm. Last years points are a reasonable representation, at this point of the season, to do a deal.

A commissioner should only veto trades that are ridiculously out of whack that will completely alter the competitive balance of a league - such as LT for Arizona defense... The deal that you mentioned at the draft probably will hurt the team that trades LT, but there were several legit players who would have changed hands in return, so I don't think a commish should veto a trade like that. I've participated in many leagues and I don't think a commish has ever vetoed a trade - it should be a pretty rare thing.

Keep the league going fair, you never know when two people are friends beefing up the other person's teams. If it looks one-sided to you...don't let it go thru.

I would've passed it b/c either way the each team is getting some major fantasy points of those players... LT might not have the same or better stats than last yr.... Maroney could be a top 5 fantasy back...w/ moss rejuvenated and brady throwing he could be a top 5 wr...donald driver is just a throw in.... i figure if the stats for LT stay the same the points will probably be about even.... I say pass it.

I would have passed the trade. Are you sure LT is going to have as good a year as he did? Maroney will be the featured back, Moss you never know could revert back to the Moss of Old, and Driver is consistent. Without seeind the entire roster, I would have let the trade go.

pass the trade..it's unlikely that you have 2 friends in the same league together trying to team up on everyone..there can only be one winner

I'd stick to your guns. I mean, we all know that LT realistically puts up the points to be worth like two first round picks and a second. Its definitely possible for him to put up bigger numbers than last year. i mean his blocking is all back. people got to understand when you are trading from your reigning mvp and all-time fantasy football points leader, there is no such thing as giving up too much. Dont give in to those kids. They probably have no clue what they are talking about. Or they can try to swing a three-way deal in order to get the trade done.
