Is Fantasy Football luck or skill?

Isn't fantasy football a little like dungeons & dragons for the sports minded?

• You pick characters and classes in D&D plus the luck of dice, correct? Well, in fantasy football you choose players and positions, and the luck of how well each player will play each week. I think these are more similar than many fantasy football fanatics would like to admit.

  Yes, fair enough. However... The game itself is grounded in reality, i.e. real players on a field. You don't pick "characters", you choose flesh-and-blood players, each with strengths and weaknesses. It's heavily based in statistics. A player factors current and past performance, defensive and offensive tendencies, injuries and weather. Some leagues require a salary cap. I'll grant you that fantasy football does have its nerd tendencies, but I know more about football than most, and can appreciate other teams on a different level. There are no "hit points", no trolls, orcs or goblins. No dice. No fiction. If fantasy football is akin to D&D, than every general manager of every NFL team is a dungeon master.
