Which QB and WR's should i start this week?

Fantasy leauge - who to start for Week 1?

  • Who should I start for Week 1? I need a QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, a TE, and one flex (RB or WR). QBs - Matt Leinart vs. SF, Bret Favre vs. Philly, JP Losman vs. Denver RBs - LT vs. Chicago, Travis Henry vs. Buffalo, Marion Barber vs. NY Giants WRs - Steve Smith vs. St Louis, Lee Evans vs. Denver, Kevin Curtis vs. GB, Eddie Kennison vs. St. Louis TEs - Heath Miller vs. Cleveland, Dallas Clark vs. NO, Jason Witten vs. NY Giants

  • Answer:

QB - Go with Leinart. Brett Favre has a questionable supporting cast and is in trouble against the Eagles. JP Losman is facing the team that has arguably the best corners in the NFL (Denver has Champ Bailey and now Dre' Bly at the other corner). Leinart is the most talented of the 3 and has the best matchup (even though San Francisco isn't all that weak). RB - Definitely go with Tomlinson, no matter who the defense is (you'd be angry at yourself if he has a 4 TD game this week, and nobody knows if the Bears defense will still be an elite defense because they didn't play like it late last year and they've had alot of injuries and losses). For the 2nd RB, I'd go with Travis Henry against Buffalo. Denver's line has always been one of the best in the league and Buffalo's defense really isn't all that great. WR - I'd go with Steve Smith and Lee Evans. They are your best WRs, even though I don't like Evans's matchup (however, many WRs have had good games matched up against Champ Bailey before, so you shouldn't overreact and go with a much weaker WR). TE - This is a really tough decision as all 3 have pretty good matchups. Dallas Clark will be playing in a shootout with New Orleans (I expect the Saints to beat the Colts 41-38 and to see Deuce and Reggie combine for 300+ yards, so Manning will be passing alot, but I don't know whether he'll throw to Clark or to 3rd WR Anthony Gonzalez). Heath Miller is going to be in a more pass-heavy Pittsburgh offense that is playing against the worst team in the NFL (though the Browns play alot better against AFC North opponents). Witten is probably the best player of those 3, but he is playing the best defense. I'd probably go with Witten, but it is an extremely difficult decision and it is possible to go any way. Flex - RBs have more value than WRs most of the time, so I'd go with Marion Barber at this spot. Barber will probably be the #1 RB in Dallas this year (besides remaining the goal line back), so he should see a significant increase in value.

I wouls start JP Losman at qb, he is the better option than Brett Farve getting hammered all day against a blitzing Eagles D and Leinart against San Fran's new defense. As for running backs, LT is a no-brainer and Travis Henry is banged up so I would check his status. If he is good to go then I would start him because he is the starter as to where Barber is the back up to Julious Jones. The rest would be Steve Smith, Lee Evans( both are #1 options for their teams) and then I would go Jason Witten at TE. He should have a monster year with the new offense.

i would go with matt leinart against the weak san francisco defense. bret farve is to questionable with interceptions and jp losman wont do much against denver. especially with champ bailey at one of the corners. as for your rb's i would definately go with LT because of his run AND catching ability and with marion barber because i feel like he is eventually gonna be a dominant running back. for wr's i would go with steve smith. i think his quick agile moves will light up the very weak st louis secondary who had like four or five pass interference calls against the raiders in week 3 preseason. then i would go with lee evans. even tho denvers defense is better than the other two choices i would think he would get more catches than kevin curtis whose stats are questionable and eddie kennison who has steve smith on hs team. for te i would go with dallas clark just to be safe. he has payton manning as his qb and should at least get a few catches till you can see how the others start off the year. for your flex i would go with travis henry because buffalos d is not too strong. well hope this helps. good luck

at QB- Leinart at RB- LT (despite tough matchup), Travis Henry WR- Steve smith, Lee evans flex- kevin curtis TE- heath miller I based my decision both on the skill of the player AND defensive matchup for the week... the only one that I'm not sure of is whether to start kevin curtis or marion barber at the flex... it depends on your league and how many points RB get vs. WR good luck!

Matt Leinart vs. SF- dont believe the hype the sf pass defense is still poor LT vs. Chicago, Travis Henry vs. Buffalo- start LT vs anybody and buffalo is hurting up front Steve Smith vs. St Louis- should have a big game Kevin Curtis vs. GB- philly loves to test down field Heath Miller vs. Cleveland- best TE option since he is going against the weaker defense Marion Barber vs. NY Giants- goal line its his ball

Leinart, Henry & Barber, Smith and Kennison, Miller, and LT. I think Chicago's defense will be tough, but LT is LT. He should be your flex. St. Louis' secondary did not improve over last season. They'll continue to get lit up by good passing teams.
