How to hit a spin serve in tennis?

How do you hit a powerful serve in Tennis?

  • I am sort of a beginner, i did some tennis research and played a few times. Well i know the stance for serving, sometimes when I hit a hard flat serve it goes over the fence, like really high. Not even near the green box. When I try to hit a slice serve it curves to the side, goes too far also and bounces outside the court. I'm not sure but i think i am making contact with the ball to high up, i should wait for it to lower down then hit it, right?? How do pros manage to hit it so hard in the diagonal service box when i can't even hit it on the whole court most of the time? I guess i need to practice serving control before doing hard serves where it goes over the fence to the golfing areas

alright im a coach by the way... the key to a good serve 1st. the ball toss... the ball needs to be out in front of your body 2nd. bend your knees 3rd. jump into the ball and accelerate your arm 4th. the wrist snap you need to be loose when you are about to serve usually people are tense and they never get a good 1st serve in... you need to snap your wrist when you hit the ball when you serve it needs to look like a bow and arrow the preparation is like a bow and when you hit the ball go into the court.... always keep your head up when making contact and throw the ball infront of you... you will have a good 1st serve in no time

I say just keep practicing

The toss of the ball is one of the most important parts of the serve once you find the Perfect height to throw the ball you will make your serve in 80% of the time.

practice, its not always the most powerful serve that gives an ace, try adding spin to your serve, usually its more acurate that way, have full confidence as well.

Power serve: Toss slowly to the direction of one o clock and hit as hard as you can. Make contact with the ball in the middle of the racquet. Make contact up high. Do it slowly eventually building up speed and then hit it very hard. You should end up inside the court when you have finished the serve. Slice serve: Best used for second serves. Toss the ball agin to one o clock, but a little back towards you. Use your racquet to slice the ball by coming up behind it. Your racquet should be sort of curving when you hit the ball. Avoid hitting the ball full on, because that will take away the slice. Do it slowly eventually building up speed. OK, so try following my instructions and doing those serves. All I can say now is practise, practise, practise. Trust me, I was just like you when I started tennis. After 5 years of practising and playing the sport I got better and better. You will too.

its all about getting your legs underneath the ball and not tossing the ball not overly high... if u want to hit the power serve.. the ball should be thrown at 1 clock..... aim for striking it with the middle or the racquet.. and when your down you should be moved forward into the court.. slice servering... hit the ball more towards you, with less raquet head speed....u should be more in behind of the ball this time... and really try to angle your racquet as much as u can here.... but overall the key to servering is getting your legs underneath the ball... and using racquet head speed.. thats what u need to do...

i think one of the most important thing is the tossing. here's some ideas for flat-serving toss. try to consistently toss the ball using your non-racquet hand stretched to the max but comfortably so you have a rather absolute length of tossing arm. try stretching the arm and relax your shoulder so you can move the entire arm like a windmill or a propeller blade. practice the stretching and the tossing move without a ball anywhere until you can feel the arm naturally stiffen but the shoulder is relaxed. the next time try tossing a ball at a line to get used to tossing behind the baseline. this line can be your floor tile line at home or any line you can find or even make at home. be careful when practising indoor, because the ball can go astray hitting things around the house. the idea is to toss the ball consistently to the front so that it lands about inside the line. this means you will have to rotate your body to be able to meet the ball up in the air with your racquet. if you don't toss it more to the front, you will meet the ball to the side of your body and you cannot control the flightpath of the ball. maybe this is your problem. get used to tossing the ball more to the front (about a feet inside the baseline). next, actually you need to just do anything your body allow to reach and meet the ball at your racquet height. you can try rotating your shoulder, backscratching with your racquet and explode to the front, even jump a bit to throw your weight into your swing. the idea is to meet the ball to your front and hit it in the middle of your racquet face, so that it will fly downward to the service box. now the last part would be follow through. if you perform the forward swing correctly, you should be pushing your body to the front, inside the court. you will feel your body landed softly on your non-racquet feet, and the racquet hand will continue the rest of the swing to the non-racquet side of your body. hope this helps :)

I'm a advanced tennis player , For the first serve, you should wait for it to get to a point where you can reach it comfortably so you're not flick it because it is too low and you are not stretching to the max because it is too high and put a bit of top spin on it and you should be landing it in the box at a alright pace. For the second serve, it should be a bit lower and put more top/sidespin on it and try not to hit it aas hard and focus more on the spin. Hope it helps, Best answer would be appreciated.
