The reason that your topspin shots go out is that you are pushing the ball too much, and you are not putting enough spin on it. When you hit it hard, you don't loop enough in the backswing, or you are not driving the ball correctly. I would put more topspin, so that even the ball goes over the net really high, the spin would make the ball drop much faster ~~Good Luck~~

Often times, when we try to hit the ball with a little extra power, our form will diminish slightly. Opening of the racquet face is one thing that could be happening. I assume that you already use at least a semi-western grip. If this is the case, you might try to go a little more western still. This will add some of the extra spin that you need. On the other hand, sometimes it isn't the grip or the form that need changed, it is the mindset. Don't let yourself get over-excited when you are trying to kill the ball. My tennis coach teaches that you should only hit the ball as hard as you need to. Sure, when you are running into the net at that high ball, you could use a swinging volley, but if your opponent is way off the court, all you have to do is bump it over the net and get it in. It might not seem as impressive, but it will work almost all the time.
