Pick a target on a wall and try to hit it, etc.Stay as far back from the wall as possible so You don't rush the swing unless trying some volleying, save ton of money and walk later on the court with some self respect...Of course if You have money to burn, find intelligent teacher to make it happen faster.

As a beginner, a wall is a very good practice partner that can return everything you hit. Watch a lot of tennis to see what it should look like and to learn strategy. Also, there are good videoinstructions online for when your coach makes no sense. You need to take a basket of balls and hit serves time after time. When you can hit serves without doublefaulting alot you can start competing beginners tournaments.
