Is football more difficult than horseback riding?
-
Okay, so me and my boyfriend got in a little debate. Obviously, we both think that they are both difficult in their own ways and both require skill. However, I personally believe that overall, horseback riding takes longer to master, more skill, knowledge, practice, and hardwork. He thinks that it isn't even a question, football is way more difficult. He also thinks golf is more difficult. Anyone have anything to say on this? What do you think? What makes football/horseback riding hard(er)? **Also I'm talking about UPPER level horseback riding, & football.** *don't be biased*

Answer:
It is a little bit further to the ground falling off a horse than it is getting hit on the football field....

Football is much more demanding both physically and mentally. Learning playbooks, being a smart strategic player, being well fit, conditioned, and staying healthy are all more difficult than learning how to ride and preparing for a course. I would also agree that golf is more difficult, while strategy and learning plays and teamwork has less of a role, the accuracy and skill needed to be a pro golfer is intense. Horseback riding, football, and golf are all difficult and require a different set of abilities, they all take a lot of dedication and hard work.

Well, football players at least depend on themselves and don't have to jump on an animal to do all of the physical work for them.

Excellent question. First my ANSWER: NO: Football IS NOT MORE DIFFICULT than Horseback Riding / Equestrian Riding. Just different Firstly, the question is comparing apples to oranges as the saying goes. Secondly, since it is an HONEST question I will endeavor to answer it from a sporting angle. Upper Level Horseback Riding is acknowledged as an Olympic Sport = Equestrian is the term. I believe you probably know that there are other terms. Jumpers (term?) that run through obstacle courses, Racing Horses (eg: Kentucky Derby), and other types of horse-riding sports. American Football, as played in NORTH America, not South America, is NOT an Olympic Sport. Breakdown ~ A. One is a team sport pitting 11 men against 11 men at the highest of sanctioned physical violence: muscle tears, bruises, cuts, concussions, strains, sprains, and extreme-physical exertion occurs potentially during every game. B. One sport, Horseback Riding, is a sport whereby a rider, deemed by his peers to be a professional rider, sits atop a 1,200 pound or more PHYSICAL SPECIMEN, known as a horse. These 'horses' are not mere donkeys, they are finely conditioned, finely trained, expertly monitored by professionals, viewed as PROFESSIONAL athletes of the animal kingdom. The riders are themselves elite athletes who train regularly by the week, to create their bodies into finely tuned Riding Machines, aka Riders. I do not know the history, but I believe if a rider were to fall off one of these 1,200 pound horses running at full gallop, serious if not fatal injuries could occur. I ask Eli or Justin Tuck to sit atop a Kentucky thoroughbred, and ride FULL gallop and in a real, live Kentucky Derby race, AND THEN ASK HIM IF HE THINKS IT IS EASY*! * he will have probably pee'd his pants! Football athletes themselves regularly succumb to serious injury, but NOT fatal (resulting in death) during (for example) NFL sanctioned play. Some have died in temperature related deaths: over-heating during summer offseason. Could be wrong, so others can correct or clarify here. Great question!

ive never went horseback riding and i am unsure if upper level means like the equestrian type of horseback or the speed horses at the track. i think it is tough to compare the two because you can really only blame yourself for messing up in horseback riding but football skill requires many different players coming together. also you would have to specify the position in football (quarterback, running back, receiver, o-line, d-line, LB, safety). if i had to guess i would say football is harder because you have to be very strong (usually by adding weight), and usually very fast (by dropping weight). its tough to find that fine line. once you master those you actually have to learn how to play and take a hit.
