How should I work out for football?

How can I work on my speed for football ?

  • I plan on playing football next season but I my speed sucks my size is great for a linemen but I need to work on it how can I ? And will this keep me from being on the team. it takes 8 minutes to do a mile and I want to cut it down to 5

  • Answer:

If your a good size and run an 8-minute mile, you'll be fine dude. Lineman really only have to run 5 or 10 yards to catch a linebacker, but its good that your dedicated, so try ladders. You can search youtube for ladder drills, and try making one really long ladder instead of one short one, its stretches the feet muscles more. Practice different techniques on the long ladder and do agility drills, there are tons to choose from on youtube. my favorite is pro agility, its an NFL drill, check it out!

Ima linemen too im 6ft 270 senior, u dont need to work on ur long distance, u need to work on your foot speed and quickness for 20yds or so, one drill is called guts, get n ur lineman stance and sprint 10yds, as soon as u get there, get back in your stance and run ten more yards, thn repeat, I like sets of 10, or get a speed latter, those help 2, also get ankle weights or a weighted vest, hope this helps and good luck

My best advice for you this (and every) offseason is to eat healthy, and exercise by doing a lot of running every day. Personally, I recommend a calorie intake of 1800-2200, as well as at least one hour of running, per day. If you do these two things, you will get faster, stronger, and into better shape, which will greatly improve your chances of becoming a successful lineman in football, as well as getting your mile run time down to 5 minutes or under by the beginning of next football season. @ Phillip - I definitely agree with your answer. I wish you good luck during your college football career :)

for speed: I needed speed for hockey a while back, and i found ankle weight very helpful and got my legs moving a lot faster It seems like your looking for stamina though, for that, i'd say just running. Run more often, and make sure you run till you can't run anymore. It's gonna help a lot to do that.
