How to prepare for college?

How to prepare for college football?

  • I've never played football in high school or at any other level before it. There, I've put it out there. Note that I'm not asking if I'm ready or capable. I'm going to do it, I just need to be pointed in the right direction. Now that that's been established, how do I prepare for the walk-on tryouts? I intend to play HB, as it plays on my natural strengths (6-year track athlete) and also fits my height (I'm 5'10 and 160lbs.) How do I prepare for the tryouts? i.e. what muscle groups should I be working on? What should I be doing to improve my physical state? Also, do you have any other helpful suggestions?

  • Answer:

Just work out...since you have never played football, I'd suggest to play at least some form of football, at worst play some street games. Just get some experience with the game. If it isn't too late take a PE class and hope your teacher covers football. Experience and working out will increase your chances. Good luck

Study football offensive and defensive plays as well as condition yourself. I would play rugby to toughen your "Outer Shell".

I highly encourage you to try out, and become a walk-on, for your college football program next season. It will still not (yet) be too late for you to start playing football. Personally, I do not believe that your best fit is at halfback. Based on your height and weight, I believe that the best fit for you is at safety. You have the ideal size for a safety in college football. What you need to do during the next 6 months is eat healthy, and exercise by doing a lot of running every day. I highly recommend a calorie intake of 1800-2200, as well as at least one hour of running, per day. If you do these two things, you will get faster, stronger, and into better shape, which will greatly improve your chances of making it as a walk-on for your college football team next season.
