Guys: Duffel or backpack gym bag?

I want to buy a birthday present for my boyfriend and I thought I would get him a really nice gym bag. He's turning 20 and mostly plays basketball when he goes to the gym. Should I get him a duffel bag or a backpack? Any suggestions on good ones? Other birthday present options would be helpful as well :)

Duffel Bag. I think you can get his favorite team name on a duffelbag at NBA Store.com. The reason is beacuse he can fit a basketball or two, lot's of water, towels, sneakers, and others
