Why Kobe is better then Air?

  • IF people can argue MJ was the greatest!...even though Bill Russell won almost twice as many championships...and Oscar Robertson was a far better allaround player then anyone!.... Kobe at 29 years old is better then MJ was at 29... Why Kobe Bryant is better than Michael Jordan: Reason 1: Better defense, better players, more competition, and better basketball overall. Kobe plays in the modern defensive era of traps, doubles, and zone defenses. From the year 2001, the NBA effectively legalized zone defensive, thus discouraging 1-on-1 play. Compare this to Michael Jordan's weaker era, where had to luxury of playing "iso" all game long. Kobe cannot even post up without getting doubled. Many people think zone's are weak defenses, that is because so many teams don't play it properly. While they may be weak against great passing teams with shooters, if played properly, zone defenses are great against dominant individuals (Kobe, Garnett, etc) that have a weak supporting cast. The whole world plays zone. Even in College basketball, the "purest" form of basketball, the teams play almost entirely zone defense. Around the world, other countries use zone all the time. And if you want to see its effectiveness, just look at the 2006 summer games. Furthermore today's NBA is far more competitive. Not only does Kobe have to deal with zone, he goes up against taller, bigger and stronger defenders than Jordan ever did. Back in the 1980's most of the shooting guards Jordan played against were 6''2 to 6''4. Kobe can shoot over shorter players like that with unbelievable efficiency, yet he plays against players that are 6''5 to 6''9. In the 80s, outside of a few good teams (Lakers, Celtics, Pistons, Knicks) there was really not that much competition. Today, even the worst teams in the league (i.e bobcats, hawks) are good and can hold their own with any team they face. Sure, the 80's was a more physical brand of basketball. But physicality, does not translate into effectiveness. If you ask any great scorer which is harder: 1) Playing with double and triple teams or 2) Having to deal with stiff-arms and armbars, they would chose the former. And furthermore, you think Kobe doesn't face armbars/stiff-arms? How can you guard Kobe without using your hands? It is impossible. With the rules the way they are, Kobe should be getting two free throws on almost every trip down. Reason 2: Individual skill sets Michael Jordan revolutionized the game of basketball and defined the future of the SG position. Then Kobe Bryant came along, and perfected this. When you compare their two skill sets, it goes like this: Kobe Bryant: Better shooter, better ball-handler, better range, better play maker, better passer, better off-hand, better scorer, better killer instinct. Michael Jordan: Smarter player, more efficient, more consistent defensively. The both have the about equal footwork and "clutch" abilities. In 2006, Phil Jackson said that "Kobe is better than Michael with the basketball." Even when Kobe was only 21 years old, Phil already said that Kobe is a better playmaker: "I think it's the best that I've ever seen a player of mine play with an overall court game. I'm asking him to do so much, and he's accomplishing it. I never asked Michael to be a playmaker." In the early 80's, the league was in recession and basketball wasn't that big. When Michael Jordan came around, the league and its sponsors (Nike, Gatorade, etc), took a great player in Michael Jordan and turned him into an icon. Michael was a master of controlling his image, and appealing to the people. This is something Kobe has not managed to do. Jordan could do no wrong with fans, and possessed an almost saint-like status. It is this nostalgia and this image of Jordan that fans have come to love. This is why they cannot accept that Kobe Bryant is better than Michael Jordan. By better, I don't mean statistically. Jordan will always have better numbers, averages, and accolades than Kobe. Period. But skill-wise and ability-wise, Kobe has surpassed him in this tougher era of basketball. Lastly, there is a popular myth that Jordan won 6 titles as a one-man show. This is far from the truth. He played with: -3 All-Stars (Pippen, Rodman, Grant) -2 of the games best defenders (Pippen and Rodman) -1 of the 50 greatest players of all-time (Pippen) -2 The games best 3 point shooters (Kerr and Kukoc) Even without Michael Jordan, Pippen and the bulls managed to get a whopping 55 wins. Uh--- NO! Kobe is not better than Jordan. So Kobe can score but I believe that Jordan could do his fair of scoring as well. But how many MVPs does Kobe have---1. Well, if you want to compare by age stats, then you would need to take away anything that Kobe did prior to the age of Jordan entering the NBA. You have to start their careers at the same age. wow that almost means nothing.....kobe has more range but he's not a better shooter just look at both players career fg% and thats counting those 2 years with the wiz when mike was past his prime plus mike didnt take bad shots kobe will still take bad shots and put his team in a hole ...and as far as pippen goes those 55 wins well hell thats better than kobe has done with the lakers before this season .......so i guess pippen is better than kobe to .....and since we are comparing players kukoc was odom minus the rebounds but he was never 1 of the best 3 point shooters in the game and he went MIA alot like pipen did when the faced the knicks or pistons until mike made his b$$$h a$$ step up.......look kobe is great and he may 1 day become the GOAT but he needs to add to his resume in titles and stats because jordan has him beat in both .........enough said

Not a question bro. Statement, which by the way, I did not read after paragraph 2 of Reason 1. Kobe is the best of his time currently. MJ was of his. When Kobe's carrer is over, maybe then we can compare on who is better. Do I think Kobe could be better then MJ, yeah, sure. But not yet.

KOBE IS NOT BETTER THAN MJ. Did you forget about the Gambling...Jordan took a year to go play Baseball came back and won more championships. At 40 he was snatching peoples stuff off the glass with 2hands. Dominique Wilkins was 6'8-6'9. Greg Ehlo was supposed to be the Bruce Bowen of his Era and he was destroyed by Jordan. Jordan was not a 1man show and neither is Kobe, he has Gasol, Odom, Fisher, and had Shaq for 3 of his rings/Jordan had Pippen but if you look at the history of the NBA most championship teams had a dominant big man it was almost like a must. Jordan changed that, sit down and watch an old Jordan game during his prime not his 1st couple years. Jordan played within the offense got his teammates involved then if need be he would take over at the end of the quarters and at the end of the game to keep his team in it. You actually had it backwards Kobe may break some records, win more championships but he does not have more heart than Jordan. No one said Jordan was the 1man but when Kobe had a subpar team and was the man he may of been able to hit 81 "iso" on every play almost but in the end where was he at, where was he at home thats right...Jordan couldn't do it by himself and neither can Kobe no one can. Jordan could of won without Pippen, Kobe WOULD NOT have won without Shaq as we see now, he needs some help, Gasol, Fisher, even Bynum when he gets back. Kobe is the class of the NBA and he is the successor of Jordan but its nothin he can do, he will never be better. He studies Jordan from his games, to how he talks in his interviews he's admitted it himself. Look at how he plays, shoots, his entire Swagger, he wants to be Jordan that tells you right there. When the next young phenom comes along we will compare them to Jordan not clyde, bird, or no one else..."The Next Jordan" is a phrase that will forever be associated with the NBA, "Jordaness" I mean look at Game1 who did they compare that too, Kobe will be 1 of the greatest but never better than Jordan...Sorry.

Actually he's not. the reason he's not revered is cause he's kinda arrogant. I know he can't help it but he is kinda. MJ wasn't. And also, he knows MJ is good and wants to be like him, but then he denies it. Like his #24 jersey. One more than MJ. I don't think so. People would respect kobe more if he would not be so arrogant at least make an effort
