Who is Babe Ruth?

Who do you think made more of an impact on baseball Babe Ruth or Jackie Robinson?

  • Its a very tough question because theres no doubt Jackie Robinson was the first black player to break the color barrier and I don't think baseball would be the same if Babe Ruth never existed.

  • Answer:

Ruth, not even close. Before Ruth came along, baseball was a game of small ball, and based around pitching, defense, and baserunning. Not that that style is a bad thing, but it would not fly in today's world. When the White Sox threw the 1919 World Series, baseball may have died had Ruth not come along and began a new era of baseball. Hitters used to lead the league with 8 home runs or less, but when Ruth joined the Yankees, he outhomered entire TEAMS, not just other players. Baseball was nearly destroyed by the Black Sox scandal, then came Babe Ruth, with his big bat, and larger than life personality. No disrespect to Jackie Robinson, he was a very courageous man, but if Ruth had not made such a huge impact on the way the game was played, and helped it rebound from a scandal, there may not have been the major leagues for Robinson to break the color barrier. Not to sound insensitive, but baseball still would exist without Robinson.

Jackie Robinson had a greater impact on baseball because of the success he had--not simply because of breaking the color barrier. Had Robinson failed in Branch Rickey's "experiment" the game as well as our Nation would have had indescribable setbacks.

They were both definitely really important. i think though, that ruth made a bigger impact on baseball itself, and Jackie's impact was not just on baseball but also on society at the time. "Babe Ruth changed baseball; Jackie Robinson changed America". I can't remember where i got that quote but I'm doing a research project on Robinson and it's from one of my sources.

Ruth popularized the game beyond compare, drawing in crowds and helped make Baseball "America's Past Time" Robinson broke the color barrier, providing a breakthrough in race/sports relations. Had it not been Robinson, someone else would have broken it in my opinion. I think Ruth's impact was greater.

Hmm... let's see... Jackie Robinson broke baseball's color barrier, but Babe Ruth was the early face of baseball. As much as I think Jackie changed the game, I've got to go with the Sultan of Swat. He was the guy who put baseball on the map, and became a legendary figure in the game.

Babe Ruth because nobody else could play like him. He could pitch lol he could definitely hit and was a decent fielder. Jackie was an amazing player as well its just there would of eventually been another black baseball player it would've took a little longer but it would've happened

Babe Ruth by far. He pretty much made baseball popular. He hit more home runs by himself than most teams did during his prime. If Jackie Robinson hadn't broken the color barrier its not like there would be no black players now. Someone else would have done it eventually.

I'd have to go with Robinson. Ruth was a phenomal player who dominated his era, but he didn't have the profound impact that Robinson had that changed the whole game and, frankly, America in general.

Jackie Robinson is the MLK for the MLB Because of him, we have so many great players that came in to the MLB and conquered And he showed bravery

There might not even be Major League Baseball if not for Ruth. He almost single handily saved baseball after the Black Sox Scandal of 1919.
