Who agrees with me that Babe Ruth sucks?

Babe Ruth is a racist, hot dog eating peasant. I think that he would never survive in today's era in baseball. Back in his era, the pitchers through meatballs going like 70 mph and right down the middle. So if Babe Ruth played today, he would be screwed. Who agrees with me?

Answer:
First off, I doubt Ruth was any worse than anyone else in his generation. Second off, you realize there were guys who came around before Ruth that could hit 100 MPH, right? That there was actual talent in MLB and Ruth likely wasn't swinging at meatballs at the time, right? No? Just going with a guy that has a career 207 OPS+ sucks? Okay.

Even if what you say could be proved about Ruth's baseball skills, his records speak for themselves - just as today's players records will 50 years from now. Your comparison of Ruth to today's era of players is like comparing George Washington with modern times and saying he would not be an effective President today. It is what it is.

I think you're thinking of Ty Cobb- Babe Ruth was not racist at all. He was one of the kindest men ever to play the game of baseball. You read any book about him and they will mention how he never refused autographs to kids, he helped out charities, and he was an overall good guy. Also, if pitchers "through (it's 'threw' by the way) meatballs going like 70 mph and right down the middle" then how come Lou Gehrig was the only other batter in his era to even come close to reaching his offensive numbers? Oh yeah, and he was not a racist. He was the richest athlete in the world back in the 20's and 30's.

I know more Chinese than you do about baseball. And I don't know Chinese. Babe Ruth changed the sport, and was selfless. You should take a page from his book.

What signs are there that he was racist? None that I have heard. Peasant? He was rich! No offense, but you do not know a single thing about baseball. In his era, pitchers were allowed to do things which are now considered cheating. He revolutionized the sport. He would still be a great player in today's game. Nobody will agree with you.

Fungo is completely right. Look, compare Ruth to his peers. He had none. Jimmie Foxx and Lou Gehrig, both who came after Ruth had changed the game forever, are very good, but not as good as the Babe. To go back and curse someone when history had not yet taught the lessons that we know is folly. And it's mean, too. I mean, why do it?

Where did you get your 'information' that the Babe was a racist? He played off-season games against non-whites. The word is 'threw', not 'through'. And there were MANY pitchers who THREW in the 90s, and better, such as Walter Johnson, Grover Alexander, Chief Bender, Addie Joss, Christy Mathewson, Lefty Grove, Herb Pennock, Rube Waddell, Ed Walsh, Cy Young, et al. You made a very stupid statement, which cannot be backed up by FACTS. And, just out of curiosity, how old are you? Bob "me he never faced latin, black,or asian pitchers so he defidnly sucks" He DEFINITELY faced Latin ballplayers in his day. As for Blacks and Asians, they were not permitted in MLB at that time. He had nothing to do with that situation. Bob

Well, I doubt that anyone will agree with most of your statement. Babe Ruth was amazing for his time, with no hint that he was racist at all. However, you're right in that the pitchers of those days had fewer pitches, threw the ball not nearly as hard and athletes were overall in poorer condition than they are today. I personally don't think that Babe Ruth would make it in today's world, and he cannot even be compared to today's players. He was the best of his era, but his era was nowhere near the level of today's era.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Not only was Babe a great hitter, he was one of the best pitchers in baseball history. Look it up. Also, he'd probably be fine in today's league, as long as he could take steroids like 90% of the rest of the MLB.
