Is softball hard to play?
-
i'm fourteen years old and i literally have never tried out for sports at my school. i'm not really a sports person. actually, i feel like i really suck at them. but softball sounds fun and i need to play a sport to get my PE credits for high school. like i said, i never really play sports and i feel like i'm out of shape... also, i don't really get all the rules in softball and such. basically, what i'm trying to ask is do you think i'll be able to still play? and learn how to play? and maybe tone up a bit? and could you tell me how softball works? i just don't want to embarrass myself..... and i feel like i'm kind of fat and slow. i don't know if this has anything to do with it, but i'm 5'2 and 114 lb. maybe softball will help me lose weight, too? tips, please! :D also, i know a few people who absolutely LOVE softball. and i thought that maybe i could grow to love it, too. i just want something to focus on for a while, and i thought a sport would be good - even though i never really liked sports and kind of suck at it... but yeah. i want to be able to achieve something and focus my everything on it and do good... so, give me lots of tips, please.

Answer:
Go for it! The first thing you need to do is tell your friends who play and ask them for help. They will teach you the rules and show you the fundamentals. You can ask us for all of the advice in the world, but those around you will help the most. My niece had never played a sport before entering high school. She decided to play softball and though she was never great at it enjoyed it very much. So get out there and play. Keep it fun and you'll be fine.

Baseball/Softball are some of the few sports that demand little athleticism. If you've noticed, good players come in all shapes and sizes. I should know, I'm only 4'11" and played varsity softball in high school. You probably should verse yourself on the basic rules of the game, naturally it helps if you understand what you're playing. As far as "being slow" would mean, there are different skill sets for every position. I was a terrible fielder because flyballs that hung high in the air would always land where I couldn't get to them in time, even worse was my arm strength and accuracy made it hard for me to throw it where it needed to be. I was a Left Fielder, most girls swung towards center or right and if it came my way(rarely) the 3B was all over it. Luckily I was able to always get on base and never strike out, that was the only reason they kept me on the team. Hopefully you'll end up finding your place on a team. I hope you love it as much as I did, I started around the same age as you. Good luck and try hard!
