How do I open a window from the outside?

How much would having my window open raise the heating bill?

  • ok, kindove a funny question but, I need an answer! last year, I got a computer, and put it in my room, and it's a hog, and generates alot of heat, and since I'm upstairs in the first place (heat rises) it's normally hotter then I'd want it even without the computer. So as a result, I'd be on my computer for a while, and even with my vents closed, and sealed up, my room would reach 90 degrees or so, and I couldn't fall asleep at bed time, so as a result I desperately opened my window in the middle of winter for some relief. Anyway, my parents went outside, and saw my window wide open and gufawed in bewilderment, and then eventually got mad, because it supposedly raised the heating bill tremendously. My parents don't keep track of didly squat, and the heating bill fluctuates so much that there's no way to know if having my window open for an hour or so a night changed it very much, but I want to know a scientific answer as to weather or not it did. Would having my window open upstairs in my room, with heating vents all closed for 1 hour a night raise the heating bill very much, and if so how much?

  • Answer:
