Find pH of Salt solution?
-
What is the pH of a 0.1 M NaNO3 SALT solution?
-
Answer:
NaNO3 is a NEUTRAL salt , neither acidic nor basic because it does not undergo salt hydrolysis since it is produced from a strong acid HNO3 and strong base NaOH , thus it will not affect the pH of the solution,. In such neutral solutions, pH rests solely on the self-ionization of water which has a Kw (ionic product) of 10^-14 M . therefore [ H + ] = [ OH - ] = 10 ^ -7 mol dm^-3 Therefore pH = pOH =7
