How is genetics related to chemistry?

Should I major in Chemistry or Biology?

• I really like Genetics, but that's about everything I like about Biology. I once really wanted to pursue a career in genetics, in fact, I still do, but I find everything else in Biology quite boring (anatomy, physiology). I like to study things on a molecular level. Also, I am certainly NOT planning on going to medical school, if anything, I want to go into research. On the other hand, I really like chemistry, and the concepts I learn are appealing to me. However, I am only getting the basics of it, and I don't know if the more I study, the more difficult and challenging I will find it to be as opposed to interesting. A major in which one will provide me with more job opportunities? What are some of my career options if I study Genetics, or Chemistry? I really don't like healthcare related careers, but I do like working for the pharmaceutical and polymer industry.

  I'd say chemistry. If it's more appealing to you than biology then by all means pursue it. There will probably be times where it can be difficult while studying but expecting it to be easy is unrealistic and taking a subject that doesn't offer any challenges wouldn't be fun at all. There are a lot of careers that involve chemistry too such as agricultural chemistry, cosmetic chemistry, water chemistry, food and flavour chemistry, forensic chemistry, geochemistry, polymer chemistry, inorganic or organic chemistry, physical chemistry, chemistry teacher etc. You could even try taking a go between like biochemistry.
