What are decomposers?

What are the decomposers of the elements (like hydrogen, etc.)?

  • I know what decomposers of "living things" like fungi, but I heard the term decompostion and chemicals, and oxidation and redoxation, and stuff...

  • Answer:

A decomposer in in biology is an organism that feeds on the wastes of organisms that are producers or consumers and as a result, the chemicals, etc in the wastes are broken down into simpler substances, for example amino acids can be broken down into nitrates (i think) and other simpler molecules. Decompose means to break down into simpler substances so you can break down a compound into different elements such as water can be decomposed (broken down) into hydrogen and oxygen. A compound can be decomposed into simpler substances (elements) by chemical or electric means like electrolysis. However, an element cannot be decomposed into simpler substances since elements are made of atoms which is the simplest substance there is. So, there are no decomposers for elements.

Compounds can be decomposed, but elements, by definition, cannot...at least, by chemical means.
