Problems with stoichiometry?

How do you solve Stoichiometry problems?

  • I am really confused on how to solve these type of problems. If someone could help me with step by step instructions and a clear answer so that I can try and do it myself. For example could you show me how to calculate the number of grams of oxygen that could be produced by heating 9.70 g of potassium chlorate? Thank you so much!

  • Answer:

    1) write bal. rxn.: 2 KClO3 -------> 2 KCl + 3 O2 2 moles of KClO3 decomposes forming 2 moles of KCl and 3 moles of O2 2) calculate moles of KClO3- moles KClO3= 9.70 g/ molec. wt. KClO3 3) ? moles KClO3 x 3/2 (3 moles O2 formed/2 moles KClO3) x 32 g/mole O2= answer
